My Approach

Imagine if we measured success by the amount of safety that people feel in our presence.
Jonathan Louis Dent
Self defined as an eclectic therapist who enjoys integrating several modalities of treatment to support advancement. I will approach our work with warmth, gentle curiosity, utilizing an innate ability to sit with multifaceted experiences.
As you experience our time together, I welcome both laughter and tears into the room. I will thoughtfully choose from a range of treatment modalities to find the ones that best fit your needs, specific situation, and align with your hopes, goals, beliefs, and values.

In our initial session, we will begin to co-create our therapeutic relationship.
Depending on your needs, I may guide the session with questions or simply listen attentively. With permission I may explore your life's timeline, delving into different developmental stages to understand your bio-psychosocial-emotional origins. We may discuss your caregivers, family background, and key events, aiming to uncover patterns that might influence your current experiences.
History is not an obstruction to wellness, rather it may serve as a roadmap, laying down patterns of sometimes (un)conscious re-enactment.
I welcome all of your experiences, behaviours and beliefs you bring to therapy.

As we move forward together, my role as witness will expand, and we will chart a new course. I'll delve deeper into what matters most to you.
This collaborative discovery happens in a safe environment, making therapeutic fit essential to our progress.
This may involve exploring your personal context, engaging in meaningful conversations, learning about your relationships, educational or career aspirations, understanding what evokes joy or sadness, and simply listening to your unfolding narrative. These interactions will shape the evolving dynamic between us.

Not everyone feels the need to delve deeply into their history, and that's perfectly fine! It's not always necessary.
You might have different goals in mind when seeking support from me. Of course, developing skills is crucial, as is finding relief from symptoms. Equally important is understanding what you're experiencing right now.
Sometimes, people who come to me aren't sure exactly what's wrong; they just know they can't shake the worrying, the unsettling thoughts (like in OCD), the memories, the fatigue, or the overwhelming feelings. Let me help by offering understanding, education, and practical skills. With appropriate validation, you'll discover that healing and recovery are possible. After all, you have already shown how resilient and adaptable you can be.

I will endeavor to take the time to learn, hear, understand, and come to know you.
Creating space.
Holding space.
Inviting safety.
Providing skills and education.
Being a support without judgement.
Building resilience.
And hopefully, cracking a joke here or there because it is as important to laugh and smile as much as it is to be sad and vulnerable.
